Amelia A. Sirum Amelia A. Sirum obituary, Montague MA

Montague, MA - Amelia A. (Szala) Sirum, 97, of Wonsey Road died Monday July 24, 2023 after a short battle with B Cell Lymphoma. She was born February 8, 1926 in Hadley, the seventh child of Jan C. and Agnieszka F. (Lis) Szala.

Millie grew up in Hadley and attended local schools there. She graduated from Amherst Regional High School in 1944. She went on to Mass State College then onto Northampton Commercial College where she graduated in 1948 with her BA in Administration. Amelia worked on her family's Onion Farm in Hadley, at Smith College helping the nurses in the infirmary then in the auditing department for the Hotel Northampton and then Mass State College at the Alumni Office and Athletic Departments Cage.

In 1957 she left the college to work at Sirum Calso Filling Station. Later that year she married Anthony "Tony" Sirum. In 1961 she and Tony opened Sirum Equipment Co., Inc., which was the John Deere Dealership in Montague for over 60 years. Sadly, Tony passed away January 30, 2019.

The family spent many years wintering in Florida, where Millie took her administrative duties for the business with her. The couple enjoyed some travels along their way going to Germany, France, England and Hawaii. Millie was always outdoors and around family. Family meant so much to her. She was known for sending birthday cards to each family member with kind words and warm wishes in them.

Millie leaves her only son Adam Sirum and his wife Lisa LaGue of Montague. Her brother Raymond Szala of Hadley and several nieces and nephews.

Millie was blessed to be a Babci to Jay Simpson and his finance Skye McNeill, Bridget and her husband Sean Genereux and their daughter, Paisley. Millie was an avid knitter and enjoyed making blankets, winter socks and so much more for all of them.

A memorial service will be held Monday August 14, 2023 at 11 AM at Kostanski Funeral Home 1 Kostanski Square Turners Falls. Burial will follow in South Cemetery in Montague. Calling hours will be held on Sunday August 13, 2023 from 1-3 PM at the funeral home.
